Organisations use several methods to reconcile fundraising totals between GivePanel and JustGiving. Differences between the two platforms can occur due to how fundraisers and donations are linked to events and campaigns.

This guide outlines key considerations and effective steps for reconciling data between GivePanel and JustGiving.

How JustGiving Fundraisers Are Event Attributed in GivePanel

Fundraisers in GivePanel can be event-attributed to ensure their income is included in the Campaign Dashboard for the corresponding event.

  • Fundraisers Created via Integration:
Fundraisers created through the GivePanel/JustGiving integration are automatically event-attributed upon creation.

  • Organic Fundraisers:
Fundraisers created natively in JustGiving (outside the integration) are imported into GivePanel only after their first donation. These fundraisers are not automatically event-attributed, so their income is excluded from the GivePanel Campaign Dashboard until manual attribution is applied.

How Fundraisers Are Attributed in JustGiving

  • Fundraisers in JustGiving can be linked to:

    1. Both an event and a campaign: These fundraisers appear in both the event and campaign reports, and their income is included in the JustGiving campaign page total.

    2. Only an event: These fundraisers appear under the event but not the campaign, and their income is excluded from the JustGiving campaign page total.

    3. Adding Missing Fundraisers to Campaigns:
To manually link JustGiving fundraisers to a campaign in JustGiving, follow these steps.

Example

  • JustGiving Fundraiser Page:

    • Fundraisers linked to both the event and campaign will display both attributes.

    • Fundraisers linked only to the event will show only the event.

Differences Between the GivePanel Campaign Dashboard and JustGiving Campaign Page

Cross-Referencing Method:

  1. GivePanel Campaign Dashboard vs. JustGiving Campaign Page:

    • This method involves filtering the GivePanel Campaign Dashboard by JustGiving fundraisers and comparing it with the JustGiving campaign page.

    • This can lead to discrepancies:

      • Fundraisers linked only to an event are excluded from the JustGiving campaign total but included in GivePanel if event-attributed.

      • Direct donations and offline donations are treated differently between the platforms.

If cross referencing this way, it can lead to differences between totals in GivePanel and JustGiving. While the JustGiving campaign page excludes fundraisers linked only to the event, GivePanel includes their income if they are event-attributed which can lead to differences between the two platforms.

Recommendations for Accurate Reconciliation

1. Compare the GivePanel Campaign Dashboard with the JustGiving Fundraising Pages Report

This method provides the most accurate results:

  • Export the Fundraising Pages report from JustGiving.

  • Segment the report by event ID to capture all fundraisers linked to the event.

  • Compare fundraiser records in the report with those in GivePanel.

2. Understanding Differences

  • GivePanel totals higher than JustGiving:
Check for direct donations made via the JustGiving campaign page. These donations are not linked to individual fundraisers (and therefor aren't included in the JustGiving fundraiser report) but are included in GivePanel as direct donation fundraiser records.

  • JustGiving totals higher than GivePanel:
Check for offline donations recorded in JustGiving, as these are not currently synced with GivePanel. (This feature is planned for a future update.)

  • Event Attribution

    • Regularly filter fundraisers in GivePanel by:

      • Platform > JustGiving

      • Event > No Event

    • Ensure all organic fundraisers are attributed to the correct event.

Key Takeaways

  • The GivePanel Campaign Dashboard includes all event-attributed fundraisers, whereas the JustGiving Campaign Page reflects only fundraisers explicitly linked to the campaign.

  • Use the JustGiving Fundraising Pages report, segmented by event ID, for the most accurate reconciliation against GivePanel.

  • Regularly review and attribute organic fundraisers in GivePanel to ensure alignment. GivePanel support can help with this by bulk uploading events to fundraiser records.
