When Smart Match is turned on, GivePanel will automatically check for any organic JustGiving fundraisers (those created outside of the GivePanel integration) after each daily JustGiving import.

If an organic fundraiser’s JustGiving event type matches the event type of one of your DIY campaigns, Smart Match will get to work - it will:

  • Create a registration for that fundraiser, enrolling them into the DIY campaign’s email journey.

  • Event attribute their fundraiser to the correct DIY campaign, ensuring their totals are included in your campaign dashboard.

  • Allow you to easily filter for these fundraisers in the Fundraiser List.

Important notes

  • Smart Match will only work if the event type is visible on your GivePanel DIY form. For example, if your form only includes Personal Running / Marathons and Personal Swimming as event type options, a Streaming/Gaming fundraiser won’t be matched.

  • It will only match when there is one DIY campaign with that event type visible - if multiple DIY campaigns share the same event type, Smart Match won’t know which to attribute the fundraiser to.

  • Smart Match takes place daily on import of JustGiving data into GivePanel.

Creating a catch all DIY campaign

If you’d like to support and steward fundraisers whose event types fall outside the options included in your main DIY campaign, you can create an additional DIY campaign specifically as a catch all.

This type of campaign usually isn’t publicly promoted, but it allows Smart Match to:

  • pick up organic JustGiving fundraisers with any remaining personal event types

  • attach them to the catch all DIY campaign

  • enrol them into a dedicated email journey

You can then create an email journey tailored specifically for these other supporters, giving them a warm, relevant experience even though their activity sits outside your main DIY campaign structure.

JustGiving Event Types Supported by Smart Match

We’ve worked with JustGiving to identify all of the personal (DIY) event types that are supported by Smart Match.

Personal challenges and activities

  • Personal running / marathons

  • Personal walks

  • Personal cycling

  • Personal swimming

  • Personal triathlons

  • Personal treks

  • Personal skydive / parachuting

  • Personal streaming / gaming

  • Other personal challenge

Other sporting events

  • Other events

Celebrations and life events

  • Birthdays

  • Weddings

  • Christenings

  • Anniversaries

  • InMemory / Memorials

  • Other Celebration / Other occasions

Appeals

  • Charity appeal

  • Individual appeal

  • Company appeal

Seasonal fundraising

  • New Year’s resolutions

If an organic JustGiving fundraiser uses one of the above event types, and that event type is visible on a DIY campaign form in GivePanel, Smart Match will be able to match it automatically.
