To simplify reconciliation between Facebook transaction data and PayPal Giving Fund (PPGF) reports, PayPal Giving Fund has recently introduced a unique transaction ID in their reports, which also appears in Facebook transaction reports alongside each Facebook donation.
This update allows organisations to easily match donations across both platforms, verifying transactions between Facebook and PayPal.
Seamless Reconciliation Using GivePanel Donation Reports
You can now include the PayPal Transaction ID in your donation reports (exported from the Report Builder) to easily match Facebook donations with the corresponding transaction in the PayPal Giving Fund (PPGF) report.
This ID, which appears as the “Receiver Transaction ID” in the PPGF report, is imported into your GivePanel account from the Facebook transaction data, so there’s no need to refer back to the original Facebook transaction reports. Everything required for reconciliation with the PPGF report is available in GivePanel’s exports alone, making the entire process simpler and more efficient.
How to Add the PayPal Transaction ID to Your GivePanel Donation Reports
Open the Report Builder: Go to the Report Builder in GivePanel and choose a ''Donations'' type report.
Select the PayPal Transaction ID Column: In the list of available fields, choose the “PayPal Transaction ID” option.
Run and Download the Report: Complete your report setup and download it. The PayPal Transaction ID will appear alongside each Facebook transaction, helping you trace donations from PayPal more effectively.
Important Note on Historical Data
To add the PayPal Transaction ID for historical donations in GivePanel, re-upload a fresh Facebook transaction report to GivePanel. This step allows the PPGF Transaction ID to be linked to donations that were previously imported, ensuring all past data aligns with this update.
Additional Information from PayPal Giving Fund
Based on a Q&A with PPGF, here’s some valuable information to assist you further:
Accessing Updated Reports: The update went live on August 20th, so charities should now see the new Receiver Transaction ID in their PPGF reports. Go to the Activity Tab in your PayPal portal and either click “Download Latest Payout CSV” or select a 30-day range to access the CSV with the updated transaction data.
Name of the New Column: The new column in the PayPal Giving Fund report is called “Receiver Transaction ID” and is located in the last column of the data download.
Format of the Transaction ID: This new ID is a mix of numbers and letters.
Backdating of the Update: The update is backdated in the PPGF reports, so charities can locate the ID on previous payout information to support reconciliation of past donations.
Benefits of the Update
Enhanced Reconciliation: The addition of the PayPal Transaction ID in GivePanel reports simplifies reconciliation between Facebook and PayPal transaction data.
Improved Accuracy: This feature reduces discrepancies and provides a more precise view of funds received across platforms.
