What Does the Red Cross Mean in the Facebook Single-Day Importer?

What the red cross means in the Facebook single-day importer and when you might need to take action.

When using GivePanel’s Facebook single-day importer, you might notice a red cross on the calendar next to certain dates. This article explains what that means, the possible causes, and what actions (if any) you need to take.

A red cross normally means that no donations were received on Facebook or Instagram for that specific date, and therefore there’s no data to import.

What the Red Cross Usually Means

A red cross indicates that an import was attempted for that date, but no data was returned.

In most cases, this means that no donations were received on Facebook or Instagram for that date, and therefore there’s no data to import.

If a red cross appears after an import, this will be accompanied by a notification. To view it, click the notification bell in the top-right corner of your account. If you see the following message:

"Your Facebook import attempt has failed, please try again or contact support. Fail reason: no-data"

Then 9 times out of 10, no further action is needed, and there’s no need to attempt another import.

Other Reasons a Red Cross Might Appear

While no donations is the most common cause, there are a couple of less frequent possibilities to be aware of:

1. Facebook API Delay

On rare occasions, Facebook's API might delay making transaction data available.

This can result in GivePanel receiving a “no-data” message even if donations were made. This is usually temporary and resolves itself shortly after.

2. Disconnected Facebook Page

If GivePanel has lost access to your Facebook page, imports will fail - even if donations exist. This can happen if:

  • The user who connected the page no longer has admin/editor rights

  • Two-factor authentication hasn’t been enabled on their Facebook account

  • The integration has expired (which can happen automatically after several months)

In these cases, you’ll see a different error message in the notification bell in the top right of your account:

"The user must be an administrator, editor, or moderator of the page... the user also needs to enable Two Factor Authentication."

If you see this, the Facebook page will need to be reconnected to GivePanel before further imports via the single day importer can succeed. (You can still import data using the facebook multi day transaction report in the meantime)

A Helpful Alternative

If you'd like to cross-check a specific date - especially if you're seeing a red cross and want to confirm what happened, another option is to import your Facebook multi-day transaction report.

While the single-day importer works well in the majority of cases, the multi-day report offers a broader snapshot and is sometimes helpful when investigating edge cases or discrepancies.
