Overview
This checklist is for charities getting started with DIY in GivePanel, whether you are brand new to GivePanel or you already have a GivePanel account and have just added DIY. Use the notes under each step to see if the step applies to you.
Once you have completed the steps below you will have a DIY campaign where supporters can tell you what they are doing and when, have their fundraising page created instantly on Facebook or JustGiving (and other fundraising platforms). They'll also be enrolled into automated, activity based email journeys in GivePanel.
Step 1: Create your GivePanel account
(Only if you do not already have a GivePanel account)
The team will have emailed you the steps to create your GivePanel account. If you have not received this email, please contact our support team at [email protected] or reach out to your account manager and we will resend it.
Step 2: Check or connect your fundraising platforms
(All DIY customers. Existing customers can skip if already connected)
DIY creates the supporter’s fundraising page at the same time as registration. For this to work your GivePanel account must be connected to the fundraising platforms you want supporters to be able to create pages on.
Connect your charities JustGiving account to GivePanel so DIY registrations can create a JustGiving fundraiser automatically.
Connect your charities Meta account to GivePanel so DIY registrations can create a Facebook fundraiser automatically.
Step 3: Complete the email setup form
(All DIY customers. Existing customers can skip if email is already enabled)
DIY uses automated email journeys. For these to send from your domain (so the emails look as though they have come from your charity) you need domain authentication and the email tool enabled. If your GivePanel account already has domain authentication and you already send email journeys, you can skip this step.
If not, fill out the email setup form so the team can enable the email tool for you.
Step 4: Create your first DIY campaign in GivePanel
(All DIY customers)
You are now ready to create your first DIY campaign in GivePanel, the campaign builder will walk you through the steps needed, we also have a DIY campaign setup guide.
Step 5: Embed it or link it
(All DIY customers)
If you want an evergreen DIY option on your website, where supporters can tell you what sort of fundraising they are organising and create their fundraising page in a couple of clicks, embed the form on the Fundraise for us / Do your own thing section of your website.
You can also share the form link in emails and social posts.
Optional: Turn on Smart Match for JustGiving (Coming Soon)
(Recommended if you get organic JustGiving fundraisers)
If supporters create a page directly in JustGiving and it matches your DIY criteria, enable Smart Match so GivePanel can pull them into the corresponding DIY campaign, enrolling the supporter into the DIY email journey (and your reporting).
