Why some Facebook and Instagram donations don’t create fundraiser records in GivePanel

This article explains why some Facebook and Instagram donations appear in your GivePanel donation exports but don’t create fundraiser records in the Fundraisers list.

When you import your Facebook transaction report into GivePanel, all donation data from Facebook is stored in GivePanel (providing there is a fundraiser ID against it - for example, a campaign ID), including donations made via donate buttons on your Facebook Page or Instagram profile.

However, unlike donations made to organic Facebook fundraisers (for example, birthday fundraisers created directly by supporters), GivePanel does not create a fundraiser record for certain types of donations.

Which fundraiser types don’t create fundraiser records

The following fundraiser types are currently excluded from fundraiser record creation in GivePanel:

Fundraiser Type

Typical Donation Source

Page Donate Button

donate_button_charity_page

Instagram Profile Donate Button

ig_profile_donate_button

Instagram Stories Sticker

ig_stories_sticker

Instagram Live Donation

ig_live_donate_button

These entries come from Facebook and Instagram donate buttons rather than supporter created fundraisers (which have a dedicated fundraiser page).

What happens to these donations in GivePanel

Although GivePanel does not create a fundraiser record for these fundraiser types, the donations themselves are still imported and stored.

This means:

  • The donations will appear in your donation exports.

  • They will count toward your overall donation totals.

  • They simply won’t generate a corresponding fundraiser record in the Fundraisers list.

GivePanel creates fundraiser records only for donations that are linked to a standard Facebook fundraiser page (for example, a birthday or challenge fundraiser).

We also create fundraiser records for donations where the source is donate_button_user_posts, as these relate to individual supporter fundraisers.

What this means for your reporting

  • You’ll see these donations included in your donation reports exported from GivePanel.

  • You won’t see a corresponding fundraiser record for them in the Fundraisers list.

  • This is expected behaviour and ensures that only supporter created fundraisers are listed in your GivePanel Fundraisers section.

If you’re unsure whether a donation should create a fundraiser record in GivePanel, please contact [email protected] and we’ll be happy to check it for you.
