Understanding and Managing Form Fields

Understand how to add, edit and manage form fields, including custom fields, required settings and conditional display logic.

Your registration form collects the supporter data needed for your event. Within the form builder, you can edit existing fields, add new ones, and control which information is required.

This article explains the different types of fields available, how they behave in Fundraiser Flow vs Registration Flow, and what can and cannot be edited.

If you need help understanding the overall structure of a form, see Customising Your Registration Form.

Where Fields Are Managed

Fields are edited within the Editor tab of your form.

Go to:

Event → Forms → Edit Form → Editor → Registration Form

You can choose whether to edit:

  • The fields that the primary registrant sees

  • The fields on the ''Register Others'' form

Fields can be reordered using drag and drop, edited individually, or removed where allowed.

How Flow Selection Affects Fields

The fields available depend slightly on the flow selected when the form was created.

Fundraiser Focussed Flow

Supporters authenticate with JustGiving to create their fundraiser before reaching the Registration Form step. Their First Name, Last Name and Email are pulled directly from JustGiving and are not displayed as editable fields in the form builder.

Registration Focussed Flow

Supporters enter their details during registration. First Name, Last Name and Email are visible system fields and cannot be removed. All other available fields are consistent across both flows.

Field Types

There are two types of elements you can add to your form.

Fields (Collect Information)

Fields collect data from supporters.

You can add fields such as:

  • Phone Number

  • Address

  • Date of Birth

  • Fundraising Amount (optional by default but can be made required)

  • Emergency Contact

  • Marketing Opt-In

  • Terms and Conditions

  • Privacy Policy

You can also create your own custom fields using:

  • Short Text

  • Long Text

  • Number

  • Dropdown

  • Checkboxes

  • Radio Buttons

  • Date

When adding or editing a field, you can:

  • Change the field label

  • Add helper text

  • Set the field as required

  • Define selectable options (where relevant)

  • Reorder the field

  • Delete the field (where allowed)

Content Blocks (Do Not Collect Data)

Content blocks help structure your form visually and guide supporters through the process.

Available content elements include:

  • Heading

  • Subheading

  • Text

  • FAQ

Use content blocks to:

  • Explain ticket types

  • Add instructions (default guidance is added for each flow)

  • Provide fundraising guidance

  • Break up longer forms

Content blocks improve clarity without affecting registration logic.

Related Fields (Conditional Display)

Some field types allow you to display additional questions based on a supporter’s selection. These are called related fields.

For example:

If a supporter selects “Other” in a dropdown, you can display a text field asking them to provide more detail.

If a supporter selects a specific option in radio buttons, you can trigger a follow up question to appear.

Related fields are available for:

  • Dropdown fields

  • Radio button fields

  • Checkbox fields (where applicable)

To add a related field:

Edit your Dropdown, Radio Button or Checkbox field.

  • Click the related field icon next to the relevant option.

  • Choose the field type that should appear when that option is selected.

  • Configure the related field settings.

  • Save changes.

The related field will only appear when the linked option is selected by the supporter.

This helps keep your form clean and focused, only showing additional questions when relevant.

For more detailed guidance, see Using Conditional Logic in Forms.

Editing a Field

To edit a field:

  • Click on the field within the Registration Form step

  • Adjust the label, helper text, required toggle or options

  • Click Save Changes

Changes will update immediately in the preview panel.

Required Fields

You can mark most fields as required to ensure supporters cannot proceed without completing them.

Best practice:

  • Only require information that is essential

  • Avoid making too many fields mandatory

  • Keep the form focused to protect conversion rates

Fields that are structurally required (such as Email in Registration Flow) cannot be removed.

Primary vs Secondary Registrants

If your form allows supporters to register others, you can configure fields separately for:

  • Register Themselves

  • Register Others

  • Confirm Registration

This allows you to collect different information for primary and secondary participants.

Steps That Cannot Be Edited

Certain steps in the journey are fixed and cannot be structurally edited:

  • Order Summary

  • Payment Details

  • Processing

You can style these pages via the Branding tab, but you cannot change their layout or fields.

Best Practice Tips

  • Keep your form concise

  • Group related questions together

  • Use helper text to clarify why information is needed

  • Test your form before launch
