Coding Supporter Data in GivePanel

Apply coding to supporter data in GivePanel for reporting, segmentation, and CRM mapping across fundraisers and registrations.

Written by Harry Gardner

This guide covers the different ways to apply coding to supporter data in GivePanel, helping with reporting, segmentation, and CRM reconciliation.

Please note:
The options below relate to Virtual Campaigns, DIY fundraising, and Organic Facebook Fundraisers. Coding for GivePanel Events works slightly differently (also explained below).

Coding Fundraisers (Virtual Campaigns, DIY & Organic Facebook Fundraisers)

For Virtual Campaigns, DIY fundraising, and Organic Facebook Fundraisers, coding is applied at the fundraiser level.

Although codes are applied to the fundraiser record, they can also be used in donation reporting. For example, when building a Donations Report in Report Builder, fundraiser level fields (including internal codes and unique references) can be appended.

This makes it easy to see which codes are associated with each donation too.

Internal Codes

Each fundraiser record includes an Internal Codes field.

  • Codes are created and managed in Audience → Labels and Codes → Internal Codes

  • Multiple codes can be applied to a single fundraiser

  • These codes are included in exports and can be used for reporting and CRM mapping

For more information, please see:
What are internal codes and how do they work?

Unique References

Each fundraiser record also includes two free text fields:

  • Unique Reference 1

  • Unique Reference 2

These can be used to store custom values such as appeal codes, campaign IDs, or internal tracking references.

Coding Registrations in GivePanel Events

For GivePanel Events, coding works slightly differently and can be applied at both the fundraiser level (via JustGiving) and the registration level (within GivePanel).

There are two main approaches:

  • JustGiving custom codes (recommended): applied at event level in JustGiving and automatically inherited by all fundraisers and included in JustGiving reports

  • Hidden form fields (GivePanel): applied at registration level within your GivePanel form for additional internal tracking

For full setup steps, examples, and guidance on when to use each approach, please see:

What’s Coming Next

We’re currently working on enhancements to reporting and data structuring for GivePanel Events, including more flexible ways to manage and export coded data.

We’ll continue to share updates as this develops.
