Note: This feature is specific to Facebook Fundraisers. Unfortunately, posting messages on JustGiving fundraising pages is not supported. However, you can steward JustGiving supporters using GivePanel’s email tool, provided they have filled out a GivePanel event registration form (or event registration 1-click type).

Step 1: Create A Thank You Message Template

  1. Go to Messaging > Templates in your GivePanel account.

  2. Click the "New Template" button.

  3. Give your message template a name (this name is internal and will not be visible to supporters).

  4. Write a short, personal message.

    • Use the [Firstname /] shortcode to dynamically insert the fundraiser’s first name for a personalized touch.

    • Add emojis if you like to make the message more engaging 🎉.

    • Need inspiration? Reach out to [email protected] for a copy of our best practice templates.

  5. If you want to include a data capture form in your message, refer to this guide on adding forms.

Step 2: Post The Thank You Message

  1. Navigate to Audience > Fundraisers.

  2. Find the fundraiser you want to thank and open their fundraiser record.

  3. Click the "Message" button.

  4. Choose the appropriate message template from the list.

    • This will copy the message to your clipboard and open the supporter’s Facebook Fundraising page in a new tab.

  5. On the Facebook Fundraising page:

    • Click inside the “Write Something” box.

    • Press Ctrl+V (Windows) or Cmd+V (Mac) to paste the message.

    • Avoid adding images — our testing shows this can reduce response rates.

  6. Click "Post" to share the message.

  7. Close the Facebook tab to return to GivePanel.

Step 3: Track Your Activity

  1. Apply a label to the fundraiser record to indicate the message has been sent.

    • Tip: Use the same name for the label as the message template for easy tracking.

  2. Click Save to finalise the update.

Troubleshooting Tip: Posting As Your Charity Page

Sometimes Facebook defaults to posting as your personal profile, which won’t have permission to message as your charity page. Here’s how to switch profiles:

  1. When logged into Facebook, click your profile picture in the top right-hand corner.

  2. In the dropdown menu, click the circular arrows icon to switch to your charity’s Facebook page.

  3. If your charity page doesn’t appear in the dropdown:

    • Check with a Facebook Page Admin to ensure you have the correct permissions.
