Yes, you can. However, the merge tag must first be inserted into the main email body before being used behind a button.

How to set this up

  1. In the main email editor, click into the email body.

  2. Click the tag icon in the toolbar (Insert Merge Tag) to open the merge tag library.

  3. Select either:

    • Fundraiser Page URL

    • Claim Link

The merge tag will appear in your email content.

  1. Copy the merge tag.

  2. Insert a Button block into your email.

  3. In the button settings, paste the copied merge tag into the button URL field.

When the email is sent, GivePanel automatically replaces the merge tag with each supporter’s unique link.

This means each supporter receives a personalised button that takes them directly to their own fundraiser page or claim page.

Important to note

  • Merge tags will only populate if the supporter has a matched fundraiser or a claimable page.

  • If no fundraiser or claim link exists for that supporter, the button will not generate a usable link.

  • Make sure your email trigger is set correctly. For example, if you are using the Fundraiser Page URL merge tag, ensure the email only sends to registrations matched to fundraisers.

  • If using the Claim Link merge tag, ensure the email is triggered for supporters with an unclaimed page.
