How fundraiser matching works in GivePanel

Fundraiser Matching connects registrations from your event sign up forms with fundraisers from Facebook, JustGiving, iDonate and GoFundMe (applicable countries only) in GivePanel.

When a match is made, the supporter’s registration details are added to the fundraiser record. This makes it easier to send the right emails, view marketing opt-ins, report accurately, and steward supporters.

Matching also lets you segment at a glance who has registered and created a fundraising page versus who has registered only, so you can target each group with the right emails in GivePanel.

The three different ways to match

Instant matching

Used when a supporter registers and creates a fundraiser through the 1-Click Event Registration flow.

  • The registration and fundraiser are created in GivePanel at the same time.

  • The link between them is created immediately.

  • No action needed by your team.

Automated matching

GivePanel searches for likely pairs and links them for you. Use this first before doing any manual work.

Steps

  1. Go to Audience → Registrations.

  2. Select Find Fundraisers to Match Registrations.

  3. Click Run Automated Matching.

  4. Choose your Event, then select Match Fundraiser.

  5. You will see a success message with the number of matches found.

  6. Click Back to Fundraiser Matching to review matches. Matched items will be labelled Matched.

How automated matching decides

  • The fundraiser has a page title (not a donate button post).

  • The fundraiser has no existing match.

  • The fundraiser matches the chosen event or has no active event.

  • The owner name or contact_name is a close match to the registration.

  • Date window: fundraisers created from two weeks before the first registration on the event to two weeks after the last registration on the event. Anything outside this window will need manual matching.

Manual matching

Use this for anything automated matching did not pick up.

Steps (from a fundraiser record)

  1. Go to Audience → Fundraisers and open the fundraiser.

  2. Click Find matches.

  3. You will see suggested registrations based on the fundraiser start date, with a 5-day window either side.

  4. Click Match to Fundraiser on the correct registration.

  5. If you cannot see it, click Expand Date Range to search 70 days before and after the fundraiser start date.

  6. A green banner confirms success. Close the box.

Tips for best results

  • Always run automated matching first. It removes most of the manual work.

  • Use the 1-Click Event Registration form where possible. This gives you instant matches.

  • If names do not quite align, you can temporarily edit the fundraiser contact name so it more closely matches the registration, then try manual matching again.

  • The latest confirmed match becomes the primary match. Email journeys that use amount raised will read from the primary matched fundraiser.

Unmatching a fundraiser from a registration

  1. Open the fundraiser record.

  2. Click Show registration.

  3. Click Un-match.

  4. Click Save on the fundraiser record.

Automated matching will never overwrite a manual match you have made.

FAQs

Why is matching not working for a specific record?

  • Check the date window rules noted above. If the fundraiser sits outside the automated window, use manual matching.

  • Make sure the fundraiser has a title and is not a donate button post.

  • Try a temporary tweak to the fundraiser contact name to align with the registration, then run manual matching again.

What happens if a supporter has more than one fundraiser?
GivePanel supports one primary match per registration. If a supporter has more than one page, set the correct page as the primary so journeys and reporting use the right totals.
